Reflect, reset, and soothe your way into the week.

Welcome to Sunday Soothies, where we say ‘heyyy’ to Sunday Scaries and then get back to what matters most in our life. Cozy up with your favorite drink for some tips, tricks, and community to soothe your way into your upcoming week!

PS: Happy Easter to those who celebrate 🐰

  1. Let’s do a quarterly values audit! In the workplace, we review our goals quarterly. I propose doing a quarterly check-in with you & you 🤝 Instead of a numbers-based goal as you’d track in a work setting, a gauge we can use in our personal life is our values. Example: How close/far am I from career satisfaction and meaning? Here’s a values bullseye worksheet to help you out on this one 💌 Once you fill this out, see what domain of life you are furthest from living out your values, and commit to one move you can make to get closer to the bullseye.

  2. Simply begin again. Ever had big plans for changing your habits and overhauling your entire existence, only to fall short within a few days or less? First of all, ME TOO! Second, habit change is so very hard for us mere mortals! We will fall short, we will get off the beaten path, and regression is part of the cycle of change. Try this next time you catch yourself off track: Pause, notice what you are doing, name it to tame it, and simply begin again. If you have a flat tire, don’t get out and slash the other three! Just fix your flat and hit the road again 🛵

  3.  Check out the app, HappyFeed! A client recently told me about this app and it’s really soothing! Each day, you drop a gratitude sentence or a photo (like the one I have below of my cat 🦁), and before you know it you have lots of memories to reflect on. I especially like the feature “happiness jar” where you can shake your phone and a memory you recorded will pop up randomly. It can be just for you or you can get a group together and share within the group too. This app is definitely Sunday Soothie approved!

Here’s my cat, Jeb, catching some rays 🌞

Committed Action of the Week:

Like a boat that gets slightly off course, I’ll adjust my path as we head into April with my values as my guideposts.

Have I Told You This Already? by Lauren Graham | You probably know her best as Lorelai Gilmore from the hit show Gilmore Girls, and she’s out with her second book! I love her writing because she writes just like she talks in Gilmore Girls, fast and funny. If you are a lifelong fan of a book, show, or movie, try finding some spin-off material to keep the nostalgia and good feelings going.

Slow Productivity by Cal Newport on audiobook | My goodness there are so many good points in this book. It’s a history lesson on the beginnings of Hustle Culture, and the buildup to the massive beast of a thing it’s become today. Cal Newport walks us through some practical tips on accomplishing without a hefty side helping of burnout. And yes, that is a possible thing it turns out!

Chasing Wonder Instead of Happiness | Monica Parker gives us something to think about here. We are obsessed with positive emotions, which sometimes translates to toxic positivity. If chasing happiness has left you feeling despair, you are not alone. Monica has something else we can aim for that expands our emotional portfolio, and that’s wonder ✨. Great video, and she has a book too!
